February A Note from Marcy

Dear Bakers and Friends,

It’s the twilight hour as I put this issue of to bed. I’ve been a dervish in preparation of the February Issue. Throughout the week and today as I baked new recipes, I thought of what this Note from Marcy should be about.  It’s just about Super Bowl Sunday  time and of course, two weeks before Valentine’s Day so I could chat about all that.

And yet my mind keeps wandering to the events of the day. The world, to quote William Wordsworth, is ‘too much with us late and soon’. Or so it is with me. Forever (and annoyingly) an optimist (or just unrealistic as some would label me), these days the news headlines leach into my kitchen.  I glance at Facebook and read various postings about love and compassion (among other things) which given Valentine’s Day and recent events should be inspiring. But talk of love as a pretty sentiment falls flat and thin. Behaviour speaks louder than words – don’t you agree? So I seek or create real and loving things I can do as I walk in this world. Those things emerge in my writing and it’s between the lines of the recipes I share with you.  There’s more I want to do but it’s a start.

When I bake, the world becomes again ‘too much with me’ but in the best of ways. From that happy place, pathways and possibilities open up like a new, great open road.

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, there’s a plethora of perfect recipes in the Recipe Archives. Stroll through previous February Notes from Marcy and you’ll get some great inspirations. If you’re really loving, make someone a pot of Best Ever Chicken Soup and Matzoh Balls.

So, without further nattering, I am pleased to share the varied offerings of February, aka the Super Bowl-Valentine’s Day issue. I’ve included some fun things and some tasty but timely treats that should get you through those occasions and all the days of this strange and short month. Enjoy!

With warm wishes from my kitchen to yours, and happy baking,

Marcy Goldman
